Guy Bluford

      Bio

African American Astronaut:  
 

Guy Bluford was the first african american to travel to space. He lived in a house of four where academic success was encouraged. He enrolled at Pennsylvania state university and graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering. He was a pilot for the Vietnam war and later got a phd in aerospace engineering.

 

He enrolled into NASA and was one of the 35 people to get in. He became and astronaut in 1979 and became the first african american to go to space. He went a total of three times to space and retired from both NASA and the Air Force.
